Stages of Divorce
01 Making the Decision
At this stage, you are contemplating divorce, perhaps separated from your spouse, and/or ready to move on from your marriage. You made the painful, difficult decision alone or with your spouse that your next step is divorce.
Building your divorce team of professionals that you can trust to help you navigate through the various aspects of divorce is crucial:
-
The role of a lawyer or mediator is to get you through the legal process of the divorce.
-
A therapist or divorce coach can help you sort through all the emotional and psychological issues that you and your family will experience during this transitional period.
-
As a Certified Divorce Financial Analyst, CDFA®, I provide individuals and their attorneys, couples, and mediators with financial expertise during divorce. Lawyers and mediators often struggle with properly educating their clients on the financial complexities of their settlements. As a CDFA®, I can partner with a divorce team or work directly with you and analyze your financial situation to create settlement solutions agreeable to both parties. These financial reports and settlement solutions are used by attorneys as references when drafting the divorce decree.
02 Building Your Team
03 Rebuilding Your Financials
After all settlement options are negotiated and your divorce is final, it is time to rebuild your financial life. Real work starts now: accounts need to be opened or closed, wills/trusts/insurance policies redone, investment advice and management, retirement planning, and more.
With over 25 years of experience in investment management and financial planning, Jade and I are equipped to help you manage your financial life post-divorce to ensure that your financial plans have the best chance of success. Through our wealth management firm, WealthGarden f.s., we can continue to partner with you on your new life post-divorce.
